I had a photographer say to me once that she did not spend time photographing details at weddings because to her, it was a waste of time.
I had to bite my tongue, but what I really wanted to tell that photographer is that she didn’t need to be photographing weddings PERIOD. the Details DO matter - and probably more than you might realize.
Brides put intricate thought and time in to planning EVERY detail of their wedding day. From the gifts they provide their bridal parties to the center pieces at the reception, the music they will walk down the isle too, the wording of their programs, the flowers used in their bouquets, to the color of their bridal parties finger nails.Yea, it’s a lot! and If you’ve ever been married then you know how time consuming & stressful it can be to plan a wedding. Everything has to be perfect according to what a bride envisions her day to be.
Brides will be the first to tell you after their wedding, that the day FLEW by and parts of the day even seem to be a blur. I can tell you from personal experience, that after my wedding, my friends and family talked about certain experiences & events that took place during the day, that I didn’t even remember. For example; We chose a great local catering business for our reception meal, and they did a fantastic job not only with the meal, but with the presentation. Apparently, for the mash potato bar, they had a martini glass pyramid displayed (picture below)and one of my guest bumped the table, knocking the glasses over. oops! I never saw that happen, but what’s crazier to me is that i NEVER even saw the mash potato bar on the day of my wedding!! I was so busy greeting my guest and enjoying the “party” that I never even sat down to eat. lol. It wasn’t until I received my wedding portraits that I got to see the display of the martini glasses. I am SO thankful that my photographer captured those details.

If you are a wedding photographer and you think it is a waste of time to photograph the details, PLEASE think again. Even if your bride does not express an interest in them before hand; She will be grateful for them in the long run.
And ladies…If you are a bride to be, or plan to get married some day, please let your photographer know prior to your event, that you would like portraits of your wedding details as well!
I’ve had the honor of photographing many weddings over the last few years, and I absolutely love capturing the details. Here are a few examples of some of my favorite details:
